Old Antarctic Days

Vernon Gerard’s Antarctic Blog

vern1.jpg

Born in 1924, in Christchurch, New Zealand. Educated at Christchurch Technical College followed by Canterbury College, then a College of N.Z. University. After his Antarctic period described here he worked at the Dept. of Geodesy and Geophysics, Cambridge.

Always wanted to be an astronomer but had to settle for more earthly fields like geophysics. Also had minor army war-time service in the artillery.

The entries on this blog are written in longhand personally by Vernon Gerard and transcribed verbatim for the Web by his niece Bhex.

You may reach Vernon Gerard at vernon.gerard -at- gmail -dot- com. No flames, please!

Below is a famous photo of Vernon in the Antarctic, with a curious Adelie penguin.
